Help@Hand Heinz Help@Hand is a Heinz philanthropic program, which gives our people
opportunities to work together for the benefit of their community. Each Heinz
site has a Heinz Help@Hand committee who work with the staff at their site to
raise funds for projects or causes which are meaningful to the local community.
The Heinz Help@Hand vision statement is:
"We recognise it is important for us to play a strong role supporting the
communities in which we live and work. The Heinz Help@Hand program, helps
those who need it. It brings us together as a group, with a common purpose, aim
and vision, and gives us the opportunity to give something back to our
communities."
Some of our recent Heinz Help@Handprojects are listed below:
Heinz donates food to Cyclone Larry Appeal
Heinz and its staff donated a large amount of soup, beans and spaghetti to
Foodbank Queensland to distribute to the needy throughout the affected cyclone
areas of Northern Queensland .
The quick response and the generosity from staff that supported the appeal was
fantastic.
Heinz Supports 2006 Gasworks Festival
Heinz donated 1000 cans of tuna and 72
cans of Hamper Ham to the ‘Taste For Living’ Festival at Gasworks Art’s Park on
Sunday 5 March 2006 .
The cans were used to make a 2 metre high sculpture titled Can Do (pictured
right?) designed by renowned Gasworks artist Julie Squires. As you can see the
results are fantastic.
At the end of the festival, all cans were donated to the Ardoch Youth
Foundation, a not-for-profit organisation working to make education a reality
for young people.
Kicking In For Charity

The inaugural Heinz Charity Cup was held in December to raise money for the
Starlight Children’s Foundation.
Chefs from eight of Melbourne ’s top restaurants including Grossi Florentino,
the Point, Circa, Pearl and Taxi took off their aprons and pulled on their
boots to support the cause.
The Inaugural winners of the Heinz Cup were The Botanical, who defeated
Interlude in the final 2 -1.
The concept was the brainchild of Interlude chef Robin Wickens who saw a
similar competition in New York City . The tournament was held on Sunday 2
December at the Darebin International Sports Centre in Thornbury.

Heinz Wagga Lends A Hand To Oztry
Heinz staff at our Wagga factory
recently volunteered their time by preparing 3000 cans of Minties to support
the Oztry Foundation.
Volunteers spent several hours on 18 March, packing the confectionery into the
cans supplied by Heinz.
The cans are used in a "Tearing Off Labels" physical activity in the Why Try
social and emotional life skills program now being enjoyed by some 500
students, since May, 2004, in 18 high schools in Melbourne (13); Brisbane (3)
and Wagga Wagga (2).
This is the second year that Heinz Wagga has supported this initiative.
Heinz Girgarre staff full of beanz
 Heinz Girgarre staff have exceeded
expectations and raised $9508.80 for the AntiCancer Council's `Relay For Life.'
Approximately 30 Heinz staff and friends will participate in the event to be
held at Princes Park Shepparton tomorrow and Sunday. Participants raise money
for cancer research, education and patient support programs by competing in an
18 hour relay-style walk.
A fundraising target of $5000 was set by Heinz staff to enable the team to name
a research grant. Not only have staff raised money for the grant, they are also
showing their support, by naming the grant after one of their workmate's sons
who is undergoing cancer treatment.
To reach the $5000 target, staff ran a number of fundraising activities
including a barbecue, a cake day, a tennis night, selling stubby holders and an
auction. The auction has had incredible support from local businesses who have
donated goods or services free of charge.
"There has been tremendous support for this event and staff have worked really
hard to exceed the $5000 target. We are thrilled so much money has been
raised," Rodney Cole, Operations Manager said.
Heinz Girgarre Raises $6000 For Echuca RSPCA
To carry on the legacy left behind by
former Heinz staffer Greg 'Thommo' Thompson, Heinz Girgarre recently donated
$6,000 to the Echuca RSPCA.
The inaugural 'Thommo's Poker Run' was held in January 2005, to honour, Greg's
commitment to the RSPCA. Greg who sadly passed away last year, walked dogs for
the RSPCA in his spare time.
Over 150 family and friends took part in the poker run, that involved players
receiving a card at each of the five pubs visited; the player with the best
hand at the end of the run won $100.
Staff at our Girgarre site are hoping that 'Thommo's Poker Run' will become an
annual event to raise funds for the RSPCA and to remember their mate Greg.
Heinz Echuca Helps Local Leukaemia Patient
Heinz Echuca staff has made the life
of local 12-year-old Leukaemia sufferer, all that more comfortable with the
donation of an electric lift chair.
The chair is not only a comfortable recliner, but it raises upright to allow
the patient to stand straight up to relieve the stress of lifting on the
parents.
In a double act of kindness Echuca staff also worked with local tradesman to
build a 14m verandah around the family home.
Staff at the site raised over $2,000 which was matched by Heinz Help@Hand and
local tradesman donated time, expertise and some materials to build the
verandah.
Heinz Australia also supports Foodbank Australia , Sacred Heart Mission and a
number of smaller charities throughout Australia with product donations.
