FAQs

Is it safe to leave food in an open can in the fridge?
It is recommended to remove foods to an airtight container for storage once opened. As with foods such as fruit, juice or tomato based products, the acidity may react with the lining of the can. Therefore contamination will occur with the breakdown of the lining into the food.

Is it safe to eat HEINZ product’s straight out of the can?
There is no concern over eating our product without heating, as they have already been cooked for you in the canning process. However, many of the flavours and aromas will not be at their optimum unless heated.

What is the difference between ketchup and tomato sauce?
Ketchup has more tomato solids, therefore is generally thicker and richer and it is also spicier than tomato sauce

Do I need to refrigerate Greenseas Tuna or Salmon before using?
There's no need to refrigerate it before opening. Of course, any remaining tuna/salmon can be stored in a sealed container in the refrigerator.

What is brine?
Brine is a solution of salt and water which has a primary function of preserving foods, in our case, canned tuna.

What's the best way to thaw something, in the fridge or out on the kitchen bench?
Always thaw food in the refrigerator, this way you avoid contamination and growth of bacteria. If it is a whole piece of meat, take it out of the freezer and place into the fridge two days before use to ensure it has defrosted thoroughly.

Can I refreeze vegetables I have thawed but not cooked?
No, if you have defrosted vegetables, try to use them within the next day. The ice crystals in the food melt, therefore the vegetables will lose a lot of their original moisture; therefore will not be of the same quality.

Should I have one of those special insulated shopping bags to carry frozen food home from the supermarket?
Yes, this way you can ensure that the food will stay frozen, therefore staying at optimum quality. Pack in a couple of ice blocks if you have the room, particularly in the warmer months, or if you will be away from the home for an extended period of time

I’ll be away for a week. Do you have some easy, one-pot recipes that freeze well that I can leave for my family?
Yes, we have a large selection of recipes that will suit; here are just some of those you can try. Just remember, for ones served with rice or pasta, simply get your family members to cook the rice on the night they will be having it with their meal.

Can we feed baby food straight from the jar or can?
Yes, the cold desserts and fruit purees are ideal straight from the jar. With the canned products you may wish to decant these into another container to be heated prior to serving
